Dance styles taught in Sydney

Six styles, one teacher who makes them click

Salsa, bachata, cha cha and zouk, taught privately so the lesson moves at your speed rather than the room's. Not sure which one is yours? Bring a song you love and Jaime will work it out with you in the first session.

  • 01

    Salsa On1

The LA style most Sydney socials dance

Break on the first beat and you can walk into almost any salsa night in Sydney and dance. We drill the basic step until it stops needing thought, then add cross-body leads, right turns and the handful of patterns that carry a whole song.

Start here if you have never danced.

  • 02

    Salsa On2

    New York mambo timing

On2 breaks on the second beat, which puts your movement on the conga instead of ahead of it. Smoother, more musical, and the style that gets you asked back for a second dance. Expect work on timing, shines and partner connection.

    Best once On1 feels comfortable.

  • 03

    Cuban Salsa

Casino and rueda, danced in the round

Circular rather than linear, grounded, and full of call and response. We cover casino basics, dile que no, enchufla and the body movement that makes Cuban salsa look easy instead of busy.

Pick this if you like the original feel.

  • 04

    Bachata

From clean basics to modern sensual

The quickest style to get dancing socially. Clean footwork and connection first, then hip movement, body waves and the sensual styling most people come looking for, taught properly instead of copied off a video.

Popular for weddings and social nights.

  • 05

    Cha Cha

    Sharp, cheeky, precise

Cha cha sharpens everything else you dance. The triple step forces clean weight transfer and honest timing, so the work shows up in your salsa within a session or two.

Good for fixing timing and footwork.

  • 06

    Zouk

    Flowing lines and momentum

Brazilian zouk is the most expressive partner dance on the floor: long lines, head movement, momentum passed between partners. The head movement is taught slowly and safely before any speed goes near it.

For dancers who want something expressive.

How private lessons work

Three steps from enquiry to dancing

No memberships, no terms, no waiting for the next intake. Book the session, do the work, take the video home.

  1. Tell Jaime where you are at

A short call or the form below. Never danced, coming back after years off, or working towards something specific. It changes how the first session is built.

  2. Your first private session

An hour of training plus the room, one-on-one. Jaime books a partner studio near you or works at your place, looks at your timing, posture and connection, then teaches to the gap rather than to a syllabus.

  3. Take the video home

You leave with a recording of what you covered, so practice is repetition instead of guesswork. Book single sessions as you need them, or take the five-hour package with a program written for you.

Students travel in from Sydney CBD, Inner West, Eastern Suburbs, North Shore, Parramatta and Northern Beaches. Studio hire in Sydney is already included in every booking.

Meet your teacher

Jaime Jesus, teaching Sydney to dance

“I make it easy and fun. I love teaching dance to everyone.”

Jaime Jesus

Everybody Dance is Jaime one-on-one. No crowded room, no waiting for the class to catch up, no being the only person who did not get it. He books space through the dance schools he partners with across Sydney, or teaches at your place, and he has spent a career taking people from a first basic step to dancing socially with confidence.

Jaime is one of the founding figures of Sydney's Latin dance scene and has taught, coached and performed across it for decades. That shows in the first ten minutes of a private lesson. He can see what is blocking your dancing, whether that is timing, weight transfer, posture or nerves, and teach to it instead of running you through a syllabus you do not need.

  • Sessions shaped around your goal, whether that is a wedding, a social night or a routine.
  • Held at a partner studio near you, or on site at your home or office.
  • A straight read on where your dancing is and what to fix first.
  • Every session recorded, so practice at home is repetition rather than memory.
  • Complete beginners and professionals both welcome, at the same price.

Who books private lessons

Four reasons people call, and what happens next

Wedding first dance

A first dance that suits the two of you, taught in the weeks you actually have. Bachata, salsa, or a slow choreography to your own song.

Your first social night

Sydney's salsa and bachata nights are friendly, but the first one is still intimidating. Private lessons get you to the point where you can ask someone to dance.

Breaking a plateau

Group classes stop working once your gaps are personal. A clear read on your timing, lead and styling moves faster than another term at the same level.

Competition and performance

Routine building, musicality and clean lines for dancers preparing to compete or perform, from someone who has coached at that level for years.

Events, corporate and MC

Jaime works the room, not just the floor

As well as private lessons, Jaime runs dance entertainment for events across Sydney and works as an MC. A group class gets a whole room dancing inside twenty minutes, whatever their level, and it does more for a party than a playlist.

  • Corporate events

Conferences, team events, end-of-year parties. A group class is the fastest icebreaker there is, and it works with a room of any size or ability.

  • MC and hosting

Jaime runs the room as well as the floor. Introductions, running order, keeping the night moving, with a group class built in if you want one.

  • Private functions

Birthdays, engagements, hens and bucks nights, anniversaries. A lesson everyone can join, then the floor stays busy for the rest of the night.

  • Workshops and group classes

One-off workshops or a short course for a group, on site or at a partner studio, pitched at whatever level the room actually is.

Questions

Private dance lessons in Sydney, answered

Still unsure after reading these? Call Jaime on 0402 022 064 and ask. It takes two minutes.

Do I need a partner for private dance lessons?

No. Every session works solo. Lead and follow are both taught, along with timing, footwork and body movement that do not need a second person. Couples are welcome at the same price.

I have never danced before. Is that a problem?

It is the most common starting point. The first session begins with timing and the basic step, at whatever pace you need, with nobody else in the room to keep up with.

How much do private dance lessons cost in Sydney?

A single booking is $120 for one hour of training with the studio included. The full package is $550 for five hours of training, five hours of studio hire and a personalised program, which works out at $110 a session.

Where do the lessons take place?

Jaime hires space through his partner dance schools across Sydney, and the hire is already included in the price. He also teaches on site, so lessons can run at your home, office or venue instead. Students book from the CBD, the Inner West, the Eastern Suburbs, the North Shore and Parramatta.

Which dance styles can I learn?

Salsa On1, Salsa On2, Cuban salsa, bachata, cha cha and zouk. If you are not sure which suits you, bring a song you like and Jaime will work it out with you.

How many lessons before I can dance socially?

Most people can hold a basic bachata or salsa dance socially after a handful of focused private sessions. How fast it happens depends on practice between lessons, which is what the take-home videos are for.

Can you teach a wedding first dance?

Yes. Wedding first dances are a regular booking. Bring the song and the date, and the choreography is built around your ability rather than the other way around.

Do you teach group classes or events?

Yes. Group lessons, workshops, corporate events and private functions can all be arranged, on site or at a partner studio. Call or WhatsApp 0402 022 064, or mention it in the enquiry form.

Can Jaime MC or host an event?

Yes. Jaime works as an MC and host as well as a teacher, so he can run the room for the night, teach a group class as part of the entertainment, or do both. Events are quoted individually, so call to talk it through.

Do you run corporate dance events?

Yes. Corporate functions, team events, conferences and end-of-year parties, anywhere in Sydney. A group class works as an icebreaker for any size of room, and Jaime can MC the rest of the night if you need someone on the microphone.
